May the 4th be With you!
This week, we’re all over the map—and honestly, that’s how we like it. We kick things off by catching you up on our week (the good, the chaotic, and everything in between), then roll straight into some hockey talk—because you know we’ve got opinions.
From there? Buckle up. We dive into local events, what’s happening around town, and yes… gas prices (because apparently that’s a personality trait now). If it’s been talked about this week, chances are we’ve got something to say about it.
No script, no filter—just real talk, a few laughs, and maybe a rant or two.
Where local news meets local attitude.

Today we're talking about divas. Ooh, divas, that's us. That's right. We've heard the feedback. People want to know more about us.
SPEAKER_00Oh, careful what you wish for.
SPEAKER_01Get in. Hold on. Shut up.
SPEAKER_00Put your helmet on. It's gonna get crazy. This is two divas, one rant. Thanks for joining us today.
SPEAKER_01Terry, how are you?
SPEAKER_00Well, I don't know. I had quite a week though. Oh. Yeah, I I know. Oh self-care. I got a new tat. Ooh. For those of you that's short for tattoo. Uh got my hair done. Beautiful. Since like February. So like it was out of control, crazy. I got a pedicure. I'm jealous. I know. I think I'm ready to go now. Where are you going? Nowhere. Couch to the chair. Chair to the couch. Couch to the bathroom.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's May. Maybe you want to go sit outside.
SPEAKER_00Well, finally, maybe we can. It looks like the snow is gone, which is kind of a blessing. Did we get enough water? Like, did we get enough moisture?
SPEAKER_01I really hope so. I mean, I see a lot of it still sitting, so that's great. I mean, we needed it. It's it's been so dry. So uh I hope this helps our our farmers. But I mean, now we need to get them out in the field to plant their crops, otherwise that would be really terrible if they couldn't.
SPEAKER_00Well, food prices will go up like everything else has gone up. So do we expect anything less?
SPEAKER_01Well, you know what? That's right. It's gonna go up, but except for the poor farmers, don't really get that much in the end. They don't get to set their pricing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. They're at the mercy of the conglomeration. That's right. I just made that word up.
SPEAKER_01The middleman makes the money.
SPEAKER_00The middleman? How do I be the middleman?
SPEAKER_01How do I get to be the middle guy? You gotta be devious, and you're not you're not that's not really you.
SPEAKER_00Well, I talk tough, but okay, fold easy.
SPEAKER_01Like a house of cards.
SPEAKER_00Don't make eye contact.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, do you get your nails done? I get well, I like pedicures, and I need to get one because I haven't had one since September.
SPEAKER_00Wait, what? I know. Like I go faithfully every five weeks. Like I can't reach, so it's it's gotta happen. Somebody's gotta do it for me.
SPEAKER_01I'm very fortunate, usually, you know, in the summer, sit outside on our back deck having a cerveza. And you know, sometimes Roger will paddle my feet for me, get rid of them calluses, but not in the winter time because nobody wants to vacuum up the dead skin.
SPEAKER_00We said we were diving in. You said you wanted to hear more about us, so this is on you people out there. That's right. That's right. Well, I go to Dazzling Nails here in town, Amy. She's great. Also, Brandy at BS Aesthetics is great as well. Yeah. Hair. Where do you get your hair done? I go to Cold Lake. Like faithfully, or like since September?
SPEAKER_01No, my hair I go faithfully. I I I book my appointment, I get my hair cut, I get out of the chair, I book my appointment.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I go to Hair We Go Again here in town.
SPEAKER_01You know, I have heard for years. I mean, Roberta is the color guru. Misty.
SPEAKER_00Yep. The perm queen. Oh, and she was giving a perm when I was in there. And you know what? Just call me weird. People call me a lot of things. Um, but the smell of a perm brought me back to like 1980. Yeah. And we were playing like, we were like, Alexa, play 80s pop music. It was like, it was great. That, yeah. It was good.
SPEAKER_01Well, one of our friends just got a perm. Yes, she looks fabulous. I'm so jealous because with my poker straight hair.
SPEAKER_00Mine too.
SPEAKER_01I if I if I got any wave, it's probably if I stick my finger in the socket to get a little shock going.
SPEAKER_00But I'm with you there. I I and her hair's long too. Oh, it's gorgeous. And to pull off the spiral. Yeah, yeah. Loving it. Uh, one thing we did go to is uh the bangs, bobs, and banter. Yeah confessions of a hairstylist.
SPEAKER_01That was an absolute blast. We laughed so much.
SPEAKER_00Yes. The performer Joanna Rinelli, one man, one lady show. It was amazing. It was way actually better than I expected.
SPEAKER_01I and I'm surprised because I didn't think it would be like the I didn't know how she as a one woman how she was gonna pull it off, but she did fantastic with it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because and so many different characters. Like, I think I have to go see it again just to because I think you'll it's one of those shows that you would pick up different things every time you went and saw it. Absolutely, yeah. The characters were great, they were.
SPEAKER_01I uh I enjoyed it. And you know, the people in our crew, we have a few hairdressers there, and you know, they they didn't spill any tea, but I mean they probably were the hardest ones laughing in our group.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they've they're living it, and they I'm sure they saw and could put a name to every character that that lady did, although they would never name names to us, but um, yeah, don't be an Ursula. Anyways, if you get a chance to see Bangs, Bobs, and Banter, confessions of hairstylists, somewhere in your local area, do go. It was great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was in uh we went to Lloyd to the Vic Juba Theater there. Yeah. Uh lovely facility. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and um that kind of reminds me what's happening starting here this weekend, this weekend and next weekend at the Elk Point Theater, uh, kids' theater, youth theater, Willie Wonka Jr. Yeah, that's happening. That'll be a good one. Yeah, nice. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
SPEAKER_01Um, you say this weekend, what are the dates, my girl? Well, because we're dropping Monday.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. They are May. Yeah, they're gonna drop this weekend, they're gonna perform this weekend. We're gonna drop on Monday, they're gonna perform the next weekend after that, the 9th, 10th. Yeah, good point. Yeah, sorry catching those dates. Way to way to be your eagle eye. I just talk and look pretty now. Toes and all.
SPEAKER_01Toes and all. Yeah, that's why I'm I'm not wearing the sandals yet. Like I can see my toes, I just can't reach them. I can reach mine, but not for too long because then I'm gonna cut off the air.
SPEAKER_00Gonna be out. Deep breath, going in. I'm going in.
SPEAKER_01You know it. Love it. You know it. How was your week? Other than my week was was really good. It was also self-care for me. Um, my lovely daughter and I went to Edmonton on Sunday. We went to see the musical Bear Grease, uh, which is the indigenous version of Greece at the um River Cree Rosina Casino. Okay. Oh my lord, English is tough. Um math is hard. Yeah. So we went inside uh 80 minutes and we didn't stop laughing the whole time. And it was fantastic. The amazing part of it all was learning that one of the cast members is one of our very own Frog Lake First Nations, Rodney McLeod, performed in it as Canukle.
unknownKanuckle.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, he was hilarious. And it's that they, you know, they've gone, they've taken this musical. It was uh written by uh a husband and wife couple from Enoch First Nations. Okay, and they've taken it to off Broadway and around North America. Nice, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and is it the same people that do the cast, like the same cast that travel as well?
SPEAKER_01Pretty much they've had to make a few adjustments, but I I can't even rave about it enough. Nice. The singing was fantastic, the performance was just hilarious, and yeah, Rodney McLeod. So good job, Rodney. For uh, you did amazing, awesome, and it's nice to see a local um being successful like that.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01So, but that wasn't our only. I mean, we got to give a shout out. Uh, so we went to see uh Bangs, Bobs, and banter in Lloyd on Wednesday. So we did before we did that, though. Ooh, we got crazy. I mean, Terry wasn't the only one who got a tat that day.
SPEAKER_00True story, right? Everybody in somebody had to one, two, three up people. Like we all just go for one, but no, somebody over there has to go for three.
SPEAKER_01That's what happens when somebody breaks out the shooters. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, it happens.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it does. But we had a great time. I think we might have scarred uh our wonderful tattooist. Yeah, uh, he did uh he he put ink on all of us that day. Um, the wonderful Mr. Cody Faithful from Marked Up Tattoo. Cody! Cody, another Frog Lake First Nations member, and just a lovely human being, and he put up with us crazy women.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. We were um we were all over the map, let's say. And uh he just went with the punches, literally.
SPEAKER_01He really did, and and you know, we've invited him to join the wine club.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so and he said he could only join if his wife came, and we said absolutely that's right.
SPEAKER_01So Cody, we hope we hope you get there one day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it was nice, you know. It was really nice because I wasn't totally sure how it was all gonna work out because we had that design in mind, and I'm thinking, okay, you're never gonna make six, seven women happy. And uh, but yet we did. We all took our own little spin on it and take on it, and yeah, it worked out great. It was an amazing day.
SPEAKER_01It was uh, you know, I liked that we all put our own spin on it, yeah. Like no two are the same, but they're all similar in a way.
SPEAKER_00We're bonded for life. We are not just through the grapevine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm just happy now. I can't go to corks and dorks on Tuesday. Can't be moved to that crew, can't be moved.
SPEAKER_00We are now official. Um yeah, so this is gonna drop on Monday. Let's see if the big uh R sees his R. Yeah, it's not for retard. We don't say that word.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll see. He hasn't noticed yet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay. Well, let me know if he notices in what he says. He'll probably just shake his head.
SPEAKER_01You might think it's R for right-handed. Is it on the right hand?
SPEAKER_00I never noticed that. That's perfect. You should have put it on the left just to see. Darn it! Screwed up. Kind of like when you so I was driving that day, and when we're like, no, turn left, I'm like, uh, I got it. I got it. Put up the big L. Okay. Sad day in Alberta. The imploding of the Ebonton Oilers. You know, that's sad, but we still have one Canadian team left in the Stanley Cup run. But what the heck happened to them? Other than, you know, the used injuries. Just to they just didn't look like they were ever in it. I know. And I don't know. Okay, here's my two cents. Okay. And so I get that lots of people and broadcasters rave about Bouchard and his points and what he does, but let's rant about what he does too. Like, oh man, look, why don't you just go that way with the puck and score? Okay, that's all right. Go ahead. Here, let me help you. Drives me bananas, anyways. Whatever.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm not out there, so I had to I had to have a little chuckle when Hyman put the puck in with his skate, and he knew it. You you knew he knew that that it wasn't a goal, but he's like, lucky.
SPEAKER_00Did anybody see that? And then they showed the replay was clearly a kick in. And he's like, Oh yeah, you saw it.
SPEAKER_01Right? Yeah, he knew. He knew. Damn it.
SPEAKER_00And he didn't, but you know what I liked about it? He didn't try to like fake it or like you know, oh what? That happened. Well, you know what? The thing is, if you're a fan, you're gonna say, good job, boys. You made it through the year, and we'll see you again next year, right? Are we gonna cheer for Montreal now?
SPEAKER_01Oh, god damn it. They're the only team left. The Canadian team, and I'm I don't want to say how old I really am, but I remember, you know, when we didn't have an Oilers or the other Alberta team. I can't say it. Don't make me. Go flames! Go flames! Anyways, um, yeah, I right, and I was never a Montreal Habs fan. I was a Toronto Maple Leaf fan.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. Oh there's a few of you around here that like try like my son included, like, yeah, I don't know where we went wrong there. I said put your helmet on. There's no whole parts today. Well, at least you don't cheer for Calgary Calgary flavors, crowd goes wild. No, you know what? I lived there for 23 years, never did. Like, I've always been an Empton Others fan. I think that my grandpa instilled that in me.
SPEAKER_01You know what broke my heart? Not when Lanny McDonald went to play for them.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, he was signature.
SPEAKER_01That great mustachio.
SPEAKER_00Can't anyways so that's hockey. So I guess we will try and cheer for Montreal for Canadian team. You know, it's so funny because we say, Oh, we got to cheer for a Canadian team. But if you look at some of the American teams, they have more Canadians on them for players. So I don't know why can't we just cheer? Let's just cheer. Like, let's cheer for the Utah Mammoth. Third Zamboni is amazing.
SPEAKER_01They may have a really good Zamboni, but I can't. You know, it's like watching the Olympics. I don't care in in winter Olympics. What well we gotta win in curling or be somewhere up there on the podium for curling. And when it comes to hockey, I don't care where we are, but we always have to beat the damn Americans. And that didn't happen this year either. No, we're having a rough go. Rough go. Thank God winter's finally over. I can't handle it. It's too depressing. Do you garden? I have. I I haven't the last two years. Um Roger says no. Oh. And that's only because I don't have time. And then and then when I'm like, look at the weeds, come help me. And he's like, that's not what I want to do on my day off. We're not planting a garden.
SPEAKER_00So that's fair. I yeah, weeds are a thing, and they're annoying, and they just seem to never end.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01No, that wild porchulaka gets into your garden and you're freaking hooped. So terrible weed takes over.
SPEAKER_00And now with our short season with this extra flipping snow we had, I don't know. Will we will we make the growth season? Probably not. We'll have zucchinis in December, I guess. I know people who plant in June. Really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I thought like May long was supposed to be the well, that is, technically, but it snows on May long.
SPEAKER_01So how many people plant on May long? I sorry if I put that out there now the gods to grant my wish.
SPEAKER_00Well, we've had things growing in our house for a while. Do you plant a garden? Dan does, yes. Oh. Dan the man and his tomato plants.
SPEAKER_01He likes salsa. Uh is that why you plant tomatoes? He I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's just his thing. He plants a lot of tomatoes. So we made pickled, uh pickled tomatoes last year. Shut up. I've never heard of pickled tomatoes. Yeah, green, pickled green ones. Like all the green ones that never turned red. We pickled them. They were actually quite good and still crunchy. Really? Yeah. Who knew? My dad liked green tomato sandwiches. Oh. You see, do you remember the movie Fried Green Tomatoes? Oh, I love that movie.
SPEAKER_01Roger will plant some. We have some raised garden beds because during COVID, that's what he built was some raised garden beds. And he will buy pepper plants. And then he makes cowboy candy or oh, nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. No, Dan does it all. Carrots, zucchini, cucumber, those golden berries that we saw at the casino the other day. Um, yeah, kale, lettuce, romaine. Yeah, you name and then herbs. We got lots of herbs. Really? Yeah, like dill, like the good herbs. Like dill.
SPEAKER_01Now I know where to come.
SPEAKER_00Cilantro. He has, yeah, he has a hard time doing cilantro for some reason. It doesn't like growing here. It's a I think it's a short season for cilantro.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Got any rants? I do. Oh, let me have it. The gas price. Oh, for flip's sakes.
SPEAKER_01I know. But I'm I'm anywhere from what? I've seen a buck 79, a buck eighty-two. I heard in the city, buck eighty-nine.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01The federal government just took 10 cents off. And it went up. 30 cents. Yeah, I don't get that math. Again, math is hard. Math is hard. I'm I'm like, so gas prices are going up, which means everything else, because we truck everything in. We took out all our railway lines except for you know a couple major ones. And we rely on things being trucked in. Now, if we're complaining about gas, don't even look at the price of diesel.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Holy. So again, our poor farmers paying out the wazoo for fuel, not to mention fertilizer. Yeah. Um, not getting the benefits of of that, you know, when they if their crops come in. Are they getting that? No. How many bushels uh of wheat does it take? Can you make how many loaves of bread can you make out of one bushel of wheat?
SPEAKER_00That sounds like a one of those math problems from grade six that I probably didn't do so well.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna tell you, it's more than ten. It's a lot. And how much is well, we won't even talk about the bread scandal of the soapies.
SPEAKER_00Was it so babies?
SPEAKER_01It was all of them were on the bread fixing.
SPEAKER_00I know Whalen Oh wait, yes, right. Uh his name was eluding me, but I see him. Galen. Galen Weston Weston, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that, I mean, so but our farmers don't get what they get for uh a loaf of bread for a bushel. I could be wrong. I I haven't been up on the grain prices for a while. We we got out of farming, so but it's it's just terrible.
SPEAKER_00So well, and everything is gonna like you said, everything is gets trucked out here to rural Alberta, so we can't expect the businesses to you know absorb all of that. It's gonna be passed on.
SPEAKER_01I just and then what happens? I mean, it's gonna affect us all, right? Because are people gonna be traveling?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, are you gonna do staycations?
SPEAKER_01If everything is going up, so do you pull your fifth wheel out to the lake or do you just camp local? This could be a good thing economically. You're gonna shop more that hopefully locally because you can't afford to drive to the Cashco.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think you're gonna limit your trips for sure.
SPEAKER_01Unless we're just old in our thinking.
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Shut the lights when you leave the room. Like it's not gonna make me walk more. I'm just saying that right now. I draw the line there. If I need to go somewhere, it will be in my vehicular. But maybe I'll drive nicer and conserve more energy uh more gas. Or maybe not.
SPEAKER_01You mean what do you mean drive nicer? What do you mean?
SPEAKER_00Like not so erratically? Like Morse code with my with my brake lights saying screw you.
SPEAKER_01I thought maybe you were gonna speed because we do see that Oh, yes. Right?
SPEAKER_00Our let's talk about the speed limits.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I uh I s if I saw correctly. Now I I know on highway two it's going up to 120. Is there anywhere else in the province any other highways? Like highway 16 going up or something?
SPEAKER_00I think they're just doing the pilot project on that um 22 kilometer section of highway two. South of Laduque. So this change follows a recent survey. I wonder who these people are that do the surveys, other than me. Those getting the speeding tickets, maybe per so other than me. I like to I call that the giving back to my community. Excellent. Yes. Uh and just also beware that seatbelts uh fine has also doubled. So just note to self there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like what 300?
SPEAKER_00Crazy. It's gone up, anyways. Let's ask Dr. Google. Yeah, Dr. Google. So yeah, so we're going from 110 to 120. And I'm thinking, what kind of change was that? We were going 120 anyways. So now we so now we can do 130. Then you'll be okay. But now they're thinking now they're gonna get drones to like fly over and check your speed. What's gonna happen there? Drone doesn't care if you're going over seven or not.
SPEAKER_01He just like doesn't care if you cry or show a little cleavage or bat your big owl like that. You're having a bad day. Could you just help me out? Okay, what was I Googling here on Dr.
SPEAKER_00Google? If it's just on Highway 2, I think. So they say that uh they support higher speed limits on rural divided highways. It'll work with law enforcement to monitor driver behavior and complete safety assessments during the trial. Safety assessments. I don't know. Just don't be a jackass when you drive. How about that for safety?
SPEAKER_01And if you're driving on a this is a pet peeve of mine. You're driving on a twin lane highway and you're putt, putt slowing down, you know, sightseeing in the left lane. Yeah. Keep right, except to pass, people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they must have missed those signs.
SPEAKER_01Get out of my way. I got places to go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and you know, I think I'm a pretty good driver when I'm not in uh, you know, rushed. What does that mean, Terry? If I need to be somewhere, like hold on, we're gonna get there. And people might wave at me on the way by.
SPEAKER_01He didn't use all fingers the other day, Terry. Not all fingers. He had lots of time to slow down and not even get even close to me. I seriously don't think he hit the brakes or tapped them at all.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, that's on him. So on him.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's what I'm saying. He didn't.
SPEAKER_00I had enough time to get.
SPEAKER_01What did you say? Hold on, girls! Hold on, girls, we're going up on two.
SPEAKER_00I think my dad said that a lot. We're going up on two. Oh okay. Okay, guess what else is happening? What? County of St. Paul. You know, they're always like, they live in the edge, those guys and gals. Oh my. So I don't know, you might have been watching the Facebook post because you know, we're over 50 and we're on Facebook. Might have hit Instagram, not sure. Uh, they voted three in favor and four against to not amend its bylaw to have the 1.6 kilometer setback for wind turbines. Oh, good lord. Oh, yeah, the wind turbine debate is back. So there you go. Although, like they're towing the line and saying, oh yeah, we're just gonna go with the, you know, come alongside the government, right? But you do have a couple other municipalities, Nee Hill and MD of Provost, that have done the setbacks. So I think it's kind of a blow to we have a pretty strong wind concerns group here. And I think they've been doing a lot of advocating, and I think that they were really hoping for that support. So it's um, you know, I didn't read, I didn't watch the video to see the for and against and who in the hall. I just read it. So yeah, it'd be interesting to dive into that. So, you know, they said no to that, but their beaver reduction program is still open until June 30th. You can get $15 a beaver if you've uh pre-registered. I know. I'm laughing like a 14-year-old boy. I said beaver on the microphone wrong. Again, you shouldn't have asked us. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So you watch the um the county uh municipal or what do they call that? Council council meetings? Yes. I did a couple weeks ago, not this week. Yeah, you only had one, two. Okay. I had I've been watching, well, trying to watch the Elpoint Town Council meetings. They had every week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they had a special one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's budget time.
SPEAKER_01It is budget time. I try to watch people, I really did because I wanted to hear what was going on, but their mic glitches. And so I don't know if it just stops recording if nobody, and then it starts on like and picks up again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it was like glitchy, and I got annoyed, and I said, I'll watch it later, but I've had no time this week, so I haven't watched it.
SPEAKER_00I tuned into the Elk Point Volunteer of the Year award section.
SPEAKER_01That's right. I did watch the I well I I watched it on the Book of the Face.
SPEAKER_00The Book of the Face, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just that little part about the um the our volunteer of the year. We had some great candidates that were nominated. There were six of them.
SPEAKER_00Six nominated. Courtney Kelly, Brianne Greening, Ruth Vogel, Morris Irvine. Uh, I'm gonna miss somebody, aren't I? Ron Smith, and was there a sixth one? Was there six or was there five?
SPEAKER_01I want to say there was six. Yeah. And I can't remember who the I was doing so good. You were. Anyways, congratulations to Mr. Ron Smith. Our volunteer of the year winner. I mean, they are all winners. Anybody who volunteers in our community community is, I think, a winner. Um, but it's nice that they recognized our our volunteer. Crystal Borse.
SPEAKER_00Crystal, that's right. I knew I was forgetting one. Sorry. Yeah, and you know what? I'm looking at those names and those people, and they're in more than one organization.
SPEAKER_01Do you know any organizations that they're in?
SPEAKER_00I mean Yeah, so you've got Morris Irvine, who's Second Chance Trail Ride. He's a founder of it, right? Right. He's the last founder, living founder, right? Of the Second Chance. Yep. You got Ruth Vogel, who does tons of stuff with seniors and with the community Christian Church. Ron, who is Lions, the theater. There, I don't think there isn't something that Ron has not ever been involved. He's Second Chance. Oh, wow. Yeah. So he's he's in a lot. Crystal, 4-H, Lions. I'm sure she's in more than that, too. Brianne, obviously, Chamber, Ukrainian dance, you know, all of that, and managing the ATB here. And then Courtney Kelly. She runs a home business. She's got a couple of kids. She does hockey, big into hockey, lots at the arena.
SPEAKER_01Well, she was one of those that were was very instrumental in getting the ice plant. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Lots of hours, man hours and fundraising and stuff. Put together a lot of different fun fundraising events, right? Yeah. Yeah. So all in their own, they're all winners.
SPEAKER_01They are, they've all uh great organizations that they're with, and uh, you know, keeping this place going, this town, this community.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this community is nothing without volunteers, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So good on you guys. If we had a you know, sound effects.
SPEAKER_00Whoop whoop whoop crowd goes wild, shh fireworks. Just think of it, people. Uh what else? Oh, speaking of volunteers and uh stuff, uh two volunteers made the Danny Hooper Seniors tour happen. So uh yeah, contacted Danny Hooper's coming to town. Danny Hooper! Yeah, just for a special afternoon performance at the Elk Point uh Heritage Lodge for Heritage Lodge, Buckingham, Fort George residents, and uh I think long-term residents, anybody who can get over there from there will go and partake. SPEAKER_00Oh, it's Mother's Day? It's Mother's Day on the 10th. Oh, then I will be sitting by my phone with bated breath waiting for the call.
SPEAKER_01Maybe you'll get a surprise. Maybe somebody will come to visit.
SPEAKER_00Hmm, maybe not with the not with the cost of gas. Oh, that's true. That's true. And they had a wreck on their other one, so I don't know. Oh, nobody's hurt. Okay. Well, that's the most important thing. What do we got? Community is we got community stuff happening.

And I know that there are more, so I usually just say MMIP. So I apologize, but I don't want to uh offend anybody by missing out. And I know Frog Lake First Nations is having a walk from their morning sky health and wellness. Um, it's usually on their driveway that they because it's a nice long one, you can do a walk. I know Fishing Lake Métis Settlement is also having a walk that morning at 10 a.m. from the communiplex. Um, so if you'd like to go, I've been to both events. Um, fantastic. It's great to uh, you know, we they've had some people go. And so it's nice to hear that their stories and just show your support for them. And uh also that May 5th, it's the Mother's Day Bingo and Bake Sale in Myrnham at the community hall. Doors open at 6. Nice. And then, oh, we have here in town at the Laverne Wilson Library the community presentation with Philip Fair, and that's at that's from 7 till 9 p.m.
SPEAKER_00And I think that's on mental health, and then also with mental health is the annual youth mental health art gala in vermilion, Wednesday, May 6th, and that looks to be run five to nine.
SPEAKER_01Mother's Day, and our very own El Point Coffee Club is having a Mother's Day brunch.

SPEAKER_01That's from 10 to 1. Did I see something uh online that it have you have to do you have to get tickets or something or book in? No.
SPEAKER_00I don't think so. No, okay. I didn't read that. Well, maybe maybe we'll okay.
SPEAKER_01You go on to the other one and I'll look.
SPEAKER_00The other one is here in Elk Point, is back road 86, is having a Mother's Day brunch buffet. And that's gonna run from 8 a.m. Wow, 8 a.m. I guess moms do get up that early until 3 p.m. And then uh I think we also talked about the Elk Point Theater project earlier with the Wheelie Wonka. It's uh Saturday, Sunday, May 9 and 10. And then May 9th as well, 15th annual second chance trail ride, Lindbergh to Heinsburg. Registration starts at 9, and then I'll be sleeping all the next day, probably not moving.
SPEAKER_01And then we have on uh from Tuesday to Thursday, May 12th to the 14th, it's the back alley cleanup. Leave all your items in the back alley for pickup. And I do find I did find it here. It's reservations only, sorry, for the Elk Point um or the EP Coffee Club's Mother's Day brunch reservations, okay.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Yeah, that back alley cleanup is is excellent too that it's happening, so that's good. And I think they're running a contest too, that uh cleanup day. What kind of contest? I don't know. They have prizes for the youth that brings the weirdest thing that they find. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01And I would like to say what kind of weird stuff could you find picking garbage? But I know better because I I've done the highway cleanup in Have you been to Marksted Park?

SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I've never done geocaching.
SPEAKER_00No, me neither. It's not it's quite the thing though. Like there's thousands of people that do it, and there's conferences and there's groups, and yeah.
SPEAKER_01Maybe that's something the uh uh our little group of we could do one. See what's local around here for geocaching.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, could we do it on a scooter though? Because I am not walking that amount of well, no, you can drive. Down the trail.
SPEAKER_01Is it just all on the trail? There's gotta be.
SPEAKER_00But there's some it's not all on the trail. There's one in the Cold Lake Library. I know that because I've seen it. Oh, really? Yeah. We should get the app. We should. Yeah. Speaking of apps, I tried the raccoon. Not I I deleted it. I kicked that raccoon to the curb. Day three.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Okay, fill people in on the raccoon.
SPEAKER_00Oh, this is this diet app that you know, your raccoon needs all this sleep, and then you wake it up and then you eat it, then you eat and you feed it, and then it tells you how many calories. And if you didn't drink your water, your raccoon gets dehydrated and its hair looks crazy. Yeah, I don't need yeah. I look at myself all the time. I don't need an app.
SPEAKER_01It's like a Tamagotchi for adults. Absolutely. I got a full-time job. I don't have time for that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Oh my god. I'm in budget naudit season in my real job, so I'm yeah, I don't need no raccoon. But yes. So, um, what else you got?
SPEAKER_01That's about it, I guess, other than our disclaimer.
SPEAKER_00Dun dun dun. Legalese. All right, you got it. You read it so well.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Two divas, one rant is all about real conversations from our point of view. Everything we talk about reflects our own opinions, experiences, and interpretation of what's happening in our town, our county, and beyond. We're not claiming to have every detail. Obviously, I couldn't even remember what I was Googling on Dr.
unknownGoogle.
SPEAKER_01Or the full story. We're reacting to what we see, what we hear, and what affects our community. We're here to spark discussion, not present ourselves as experts. If we miss something, get something wrong, or there's more to the story. We genuinely welcome being corrected or educated. Community insights make the conversations better, and we're always open from learning from the people who live it. So yes, drop us a line. DM us.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We've been reading everything. We try to get back to everyone. We message, we take the friendly feedback, we take the unfriendly feedback.
SPEAKER_01You know, we have been very fortunate. We haven't had a lot of negative feedback, which is thank you. Uh, for those uh people that the you haven't done any haven't sent submitted anything.
SPEAKER_00You don't need to start now, just keep it positive, people.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_00Let us do the negative.
SPEAKER_01Terry has a stick. Don't make her use it on you.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01So well, that's it for today's conversation.
SPEAKER_00All right. So our next one is, yeah, in two weeks' time. We'll see you then. That's right. So this is Two Divas, One Rant, where local news meets local attitude. Oh, yeah.
